4th round of the Irish Nationals BMX in Ratoath Jun 9th

June 14, 2013

Sunday the 9th June Ratoath came alive with BMXers ,The weather played its part with temperatures getting into the mid 20″s making it tricky to keep cool all day. It was a great Family Day with bouncy castles ,Giant Air Bag and the Ice Cream van. The track was riding faster than it ever had catching out some riders ,young Tom Gordon had a nasty fall at the start of the day ,Lar Massey one of the more experienced riders also took a nasty spill landing hard on his pride.

The Riders

We had a full gate in the under 6 boys and they didn’t let us down showing us how brave they are with some very close racing ,it was great to see new faces in this group. The under 8 boys was won by Corey Waller with the new kid on the block Ruben Smith right on his heals ,Charlie Jackson was flying all day but crashed out in the last Moto he just just got up and brushed himself off and got on with the rest of the day great to see young man.Ryan Quinn (Stay Strong) and Morgan Kearney ( CAAM Racing )  took first place in there age group 9-10.The 11 boys were great to watch with Ross and Daniel swapping first place throughout the day.

Alan Coleman got his max points in the boys aged 12. There was a visible difference from the last Nationals in the the boys 13 Aaron McNally took the win with Leon Curley ( Kings N” Leon ) taking second.

Boys 14 this was a great final and one we all love watching the lead changed hands a number of times but in the end Eoin Corrigan took the win.Aaron Edwards took the points again this guy will be mixing it up in Superclass soon so watch out guys.

16-29 Patrick one foot Bradley had a tough battle all day but managed to come out on top.

The Girls

Shauna Byrne and Abby Steacy were unstoppable all day,Kate Larkin has now  finished 1st in all four Nationals “Go Girl Power” . Katie O Neill finished top in her class and mixed it up with the Boys taking 3rd in their class.

30+ Men another fun race to watch the man with the yellow helmet ( Ian Callaghan )won the race but I think Stephen Bagnall won the back flip competition.

Now for the Superclass Guys, it was great to see Killian back after a very nasty broken leg , Kevin MC Shane pulled out out the final and rightly so as he found out next day he had fractured his elbow and now for the eight wonder of the world, how did Lar Massey take that win after his massive crash in practice ! It shows the commitment and passion these guys have for the sport BMX .

Now just to thank all the 114 racers , the spectators who cheered all day, the volunteers and of course Mr Shay McNally.
