The Double Header Ratoath BMX 16-17 August

August 21, 2014

Ratoath BMX was honored to run the first double header in Irish BMX, it promised to be a special weekend with so many titles up for grabs, we had round 5 & 6 up for grabs, the 2014 national series winners to be announced after the last race on Sunday. The points would all have to be added up and the Team competition winners would be announced also.

So it all kicked off on Saturday morning it was dry but the wind was hurting the riders on the 1st and 3rd straights. We had Family fun DJ, BBQ, Kids dance off  Boys V Girls and of course the big event the Strider race for the up and coming racers.

The wind didn’t slow the young guns down we saw the under 6 Boys and Girls away first, they are getting faster and faster every time we see them. Well done Carly Hayes she did great and gave us some great racing.

Next up Boys 7-8 there was a great battle all weekend with Corey, Callum and Charlie, the 7 year old boys were right with them, it will be great to see them on the podium next year.

The Boys 9-10 we saw lots of great battles with this age group they were all so close all weekend, Id say Ryan Quinn bought super glue on his way home to stop him slipping off the pedals he was unlucky out of the gate but still walked away with the number one plate. So that was super glue for Ryan and hair gel for Nial.

The Boys 11-12 Daniel his bite is bigger than his Barker lead all weekend taking 1st place every day well done, Morgan as always was right in there too well done to all the guys.

The Boys 13-14 saw Leon and Matthew swapping 1st and 2nd for most of the weekend, this was a great age group to watch with all the riders showing the determination to win and have fun at the same time.

The Girls U7 Now it was the Ladies turn now to show the boys how its done they never gave up and got the biggest cheer every time they raced around the long windy track.

Girls 8-10 showed even in small numbers its great to watch.

Girls 11-14 Abby Steacy is the one to watch in this group winning all 6 rounds this year, Abby hadn’t got it easy as Kate Larkin and Caitlin Gaffney were right with her all day.

Boys 15 + up next, WOW what a bunch of Boys and Girl ( Katie ) they did BMX proud showing off the skills they have learned over the last few years battling away swapping the lead bouncing back up after a WIPE-OUT. For Katie to be mixing it up with these guys is something else so take a bow young Lady. These guys are the masters of the night train so if you haven’t seen this get down to the track and be amazed.

Vets 30 + Saw Alison Murphy mixing it up with the men on Sunday, there was great excitement every time the gate dropped as the speed and aggression of the racing  rose to a different level showing that the big boys can have fun too. Joey (flip flops) O Neill was the star of the weekend taking the 2014 National Title.

Superclass, Hold your breath this was an amazing bunch of riders to watch. Finally in the last National of the year someone put pressure on Mr Joe Presswood  that’s right Geronimo Roa gave Joe a great battle and even managed to win National number 6. It was great to see the young guys riding hard in superclass this year showing that they are a force to be reckoned with, so well done Sam, Jake, Matthew, John and Aaron X up.

Well done to all the Teams who took part and the the winners Route 55.

Its very hard to mention every rider in every group as there is so many riders now. Id like to say well done to all the riders who competed in the 2014 Irish National BMX Series you did yourself and your Club proud.

So that brings an end to the 2014 National Series a great big thank to everybody involved I think its safe to say we have a great sport that we are all involved in so lets look after it and bring it to a new level. Look forward to seeing everybody in lucan at the All Ireland BMX Championship 2014 21-Sept 2014.
